Pushbelt (Working principle)
bosch_cvt_products_pushbelt_keyv.jpg
The heart of the CVT is the variator consisting of two pulleys, each built up of two conical, adjustable sheaves. When the distance between the sheaves is changed, the running radius of the pushbelt adjusts automatically, allowing the trans-
mission ratio to operate in continuous variation.

The pushbelt is made up of hundreds of individual, specially designed steel elements, which are stringed together along
2 high-alloy steel ring packs. These elements are clamped between the sheaves to transmit the torque from the primary to the secondary pulley. Because the torque is transmitted by pushing rather than pulling the connection between the two ‘variators’ is a solid steel bar.

This enables the transmission of very high loads – the CVT is available for all vehicles with up to 450 Nm (Newton meters) of torque, depending on customer needs and wants.
